Current Events

Here we are starting a new year and some things are starting to change at church. First, the leaders of our church were faced with a decision of tough leadership. There were some in the body, that wanted to stop contemporary worship style of music, and revert back to traditional only. (You know, the squeaky wheel syndrome) Fortunately, the leaders all stepped up and led for the future, not looking behind. I know a few people were disappointed, but for the greater good of reaching more for Christ, the right decision was made. ( I know some of you who read this will cynically think... "Of course I would say that, I'm the worship minister....." but it's true.) More importantly, for the worship team as a whole, some awesome things are beginning to happen. Our study, of the book, "The Heart of the Artist" by Rory Noland has been awesome. I recommend it to anyone involved in the worship ministry at their church. It has changed hearts, attitudes, and created servants where once self-serving people sat and played guitars. We have drafted and are soon to adopt, a mission statement, purpose statement and goals of the worship ministry team. I'm excited!!!! Never before have we been here, never again will we be. We press on toward the goal!!
Remember: May our strings be bent in praise to the King, our drums beat and keys struck in perfect rhythm of Jesus Christ. Until every move we make, we make in You... We press on.

Worship from the inside

We sit in church like little puppets, waiting for someone to pull our string. It tightens and the hand goes out to stiffly greet people. Relax. It tightens again and this time it hurts, someone is sitting in our pew and even worse, they are new, so how can we say anything. Now the strings compel us across the sanctuary, where we nurse our wounded pride. Relax. Ahh, that feels good, maybe I'll just sit for awhile. Bummer! That crazy worship pastor just had us stand up to sing. The strings won't take much more of this. Now that we are standing it sure is easier to see those kids disturbing the service with their clapping and dancing. Man I wish it was like the good old days where we actually could hear and understand what was going on. These new songs, who gets them anyway? We sit, a child comes near to mom and holds their hands up. Mom picks them up and holds them tight. That's when the strings compel us to raise our hands to God, he picks us up and holds us tight. Imagine a mom who said to a child wanting to be held, " Put your hands down you little charismatic. Someone might notice you." Of course not, but are we afraid to be noticed by God, or of what others might think. Perhaps we have never learned to worship in the first place!
